Administrative Board of the Cement Producers Association in Iraq Holds Its Regular Meeting in Sulaymaniyah
The Administrative Board of the Cement Producers Association in Iraq held its regular meeting on Saturday, 26 September 2026, at the Rotana Hotel in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The meeting was chaired by the Association’s President, Eng. Ammar Raheem Abdullah Al-Saedi, and attended by members of the Administrative Board, Sales Managers, and Finance Managers of the member companies.
The attendees emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation among Association members to address the challenges facing the sector, facilitate the resolution of operational and commercial issues, and promote production efficiency and effective marketing practices.
The meeting reviewed a number of critical issues affecting the cement industry, with particular emphasis on the sharp increase in heavy fuel oil prices and electricity rates, both of which have substantially raised cement production costs. The attendees also examined the general decline in cement sales, attributable in part to a significant production surplus following the establishment and commissioning of new cement plants. This imbalance between supply and market demand has placed considerable pressure on the economic viability and operational sustainability of cement plants.
The attendees reaffirmed the importance of continuing to engage with the competent government authorities to ensure the uninterrupted supply of fuel to cement plants in accordance with Council of Ministers Resolution No. 409 of 2015, which provides for government support for fuel prices. They also stressed the need for continuous monitoring of market developments and the adoption of appropriate measures to mitigate the impact of rising production costs, while maintaining a reliable supply of cement to the domestic market.
